When Tessa hears from her mother, who left when Tessa was only five years old, it’s a dream come true. She hurries off to the French countryside to see her mother for the first time in twenty years. But when she arrives, she finds a letter addressed to her: her mother had to flee from loan sharks, and she’s leaving her rental cottages in Tessa’s care! Confused, Tessa tries to get an answer out of Guy de Turaine, her mother’s landlord, only to find out that the villagers hate her mother. To make matters worse, now that he knows she’s her daughter, his gaze has gone ice cold!

I agree with JAB about most of the story. Unfortunately I wished the mother could have had a bigger part in this, not just a letter and phone call. I would have liked to see mother and daughter clearing the air and finally get some closure. The second half felt rushed and not as good as the first 60 pages. Honestly I'm glad I'm not keeping this permanently on my shelf because of how it ended. Definitely not my best purchase... A Tail Of Love was better than this and i didn't keep that either.

cottages 4  4

The heroine learns that she inherited cottages from her disappeared mother but when she goes to see them, the hero comes up with hell's fire and stuff because her mother was a mistress to the previous lord and the villagers hated her and that hate has now been passed on to the daughter. I like the heroine for a lot of things: one, her job is a carpenter and she rides a motorcycle. The heroine learns that her mother has flown away when she stated in her letter that she wanted to meet her daughter and the hero makes the heroine a meal to comfort her. The heroine decides to rebuild the cottages but has little help from the villagers and someone has been pranking her, delaying her progress. The hero and the heroine meet and it goes badly till the hero hears of the pranks and comforts the heroine. The hero helps the heroine around the hard edged villagers and the heroine learns of what kind of person, her mother really is. This realization leads both her and the hero to the bed. Then the heroine meets a woman in the hero's bedroom after a shower and it goes south claiming how the woman is the one for the hero and the hero is the one who has really been pranking the heroine and tells the woman to leave. We learn that the woman is actually the daughter of the heroine. It was a surprise because there was no indication of the woman being his daughter, only her name. It did sound like she was a wife or girlfriend to him. I like that the heroine talks it out with the daughter of the hero and the ending is good.
