Valenti's One-Month Mistress
Faye Matteson spent an entire summer in Rome working alongside Dante Valenti, the owner of the famed Il Maia Hotel and its even more famous restaurant, Perfezione. While the summer was enchanting, it ended bitterly. Walking through the doors of the Il Maia now, with that summer six years behind her, she is once again face-to-face with the man who shattered her innocent heart. To add insult to injury, he offers to bail her restaurant out, but only if she agrees to some devious conditions. In a whirlwind of bitterness and intense longing, the two relive the mistakes they made that summer long ago.

The hero and heroine were once a short romance pair but it ended after their first bout of coitus because of some miscommunication from the hero to the heroine because she said that he gave her the greatest gift (the hot night) but he misinterpreted as her wanting the very expensive dress she was gazing in the shop window. So, some hurt things are said with the hero leaving and the heroine does as well with the dress left behind. They don't see each for some years until the heroine has to go back to the hero to ask for a loan on the family restaurant with a well thought out proposal plan. The hero agrees but only with a few added conditions like: the heroine has to work at the hero's rich and fancy hotel and she has to be with him in all aspects for one month. So, the mornings, she spends peeling the potatoes and going to fancy dinners with the hero. She ordered to go to a ball with the very same dress from the dress window she gazed at. The heroine does her best and shines a glow even the hero can't ignore. At the party, while making business contacts, the heroine learns the hero did go after the heroine but was turned away by the heroine's mom and learned she was traveling with a male friend. Due to being neglected by his mom when he was little so she could latch onto the next make with ease but he's starting to have dubs if the heroine was really using him. Their relationship seems to pick up but the tabloids stunt the growth of anything romanic because it happens but it doesn't stop the hero from falling back in love with the heroine. However, the heroine has had enough and wants to end their relationship. The heroine thinks that it's the last but imagine her surprise when she sees him alone at a table. It takes a trip from the ambulance from a fainting spelling for the two of them to talk over some things. He apologizes for the things he said and goes on his influence of not believing in her stems from his childhood of a woman who put dime a doze dads over him. The heroine forgives the hero because she's still in love with the hero. It's nice ending with the two of them talking about growing old together.
