It's heartbreaking when one's own sibling dies before their time but even harder to deal with it time taken was by the hand of another. The heroine is told by police of her sister's murderer as well as her recently giving birth. That means that her niece or nephew is somewhere out there. She decides to do her own investigation but is interrupted by her high school sweetheart who left her and his family without a word when they graduated and after he proposed to the heroine. He left her to deal with the ire of his mother who blamed the heroine for not keeping the hero but that's an issue that never comes up. The hero is honest with the heroine that her sister is a string of murdered red heads who were not only vulnerable single women but also pregnant at the time. Suspiciously, all the babies have disappeared as well, indicating that it's a baby selling ring that kills the mothers. So, the hero tells the heroine to back off but she doesn't because that missing baby is her only relative alive now and she wants to find it to give it a home and justice for her sister's killers. However, the hero's partner convinces him to use the heroine as a cover to pose as a childless couple to catch the killer's eyes and get into their ring. During the investigation, the hero and heroine learn more about each of what they felt in the past and current. I don't want to say anymore because it will ruin the suspense but spoiler is they do catch the bad guys and get the sister's baby back. They open up about their feelings for each other and the hero confesses that he loves the heroine and asks her to marry him. The heroine accepts his proposal and they make a new start as a family. I will admit that this is a grim one and if you don't want to read about murdered mothers then I would definitely say don't read it but if you like suspense then this is definitely a good read.
