[ 3-day rental ]
When Lucy, the heiress of the wealthy Carey family, loses her antique ring, the only memento of her late mother, her spirits sink. But one day, at an extravagant charity function, she spots it…on the finger of Carol, a beautiful woman she’s never seen before! Carol’s the date of a man named Jud. When Lucy finds Jud and tells him the ring is all she has left of her mother, he makes a shocking offer. He’ll give her the ring…but only by slipping it on her left ring finger and making her his fiancée! The Careys are aristocrats in name only, and Lucy has mere pennies to her name, so she has no choice but to accept his proposal.

- Hidden engagement 3
- JAB 12/15/2018
To summarize this entire story, the hero decides the best way to get the woman he's fallen in love with is to get her into a fake engagement in order get her to marry him for real. I personally wasn't so big with the heroine. It wasn't because she didn't think that her brother had actually pawned their mother's keepsake ring until he confessed it himself. It was her letting her brother tell her not to go out in the real world and get a job. For cryin' in the night, the woman seemed to forget that most of their furniture is gone from the debts. Plus, I didn't like she didn't pressure the brother into giving up their mansion in order to do the forbidden word til towards the ending: economize!! The hero was better because even after getting her into a fake engagement in order to keep a very young family friend off him, he was a gentleman with the heroine. Once, the heroine learns what happened to the ring, she gives it back to the hero and finally goes out and gets a job. The brother seems to get better with finding a job and sounding a lot better. The brother calls her back for help and she comes back to find the it strange that the brother who's poor has hired a lot of people for a cover up party. Then the brother confesses that it was all the hero's doing even helping the brother get a job. Although, the hero does give the brother the list of consequences if he should go back into bad habits. The the hero and heroine meet and after some miscommunication the hero finally tells her upfront that he's proposing a real marriage to the heroine because he loves her and wants to marry her. We end it on a wedding but it didn't hold my interest so much.
