After being new mother to her almost one year old adopted daughter/niece for six months, the heroine gets a surprise. The father has come to claim his rights as a parent. This really scares the heroine into almost running but the hero stops her. For at least half of the book, the heroine is baring fangs, trying to trip the hero up, and seeing him from a narrow vision. She doesn't get it till more than half way through the book that this is a lonely guy who's suffered tortured and has PTSD from being tortured for six months by enemies when the sister was trying to contact him. Plus, he's a man who doesn't have any family (except his military brothers) and merely wants to have a family with a little girl, be a father like he was. Some apologies are made between the two (mostly from the heroine for her harsh words). The hero proposes a deal that they married for the daughter's convenience, which hurts the heroine because she finds herself in love with the hero. They get married but end up in separate bedrooms. They slowly build up a family home but that ends quickly when the heroine hears from another source that the hero is going back to the torture place because the rest of his military brothers are still there. This breaks out into a huge fight between the two again, the heroine runs out with the little girl and the hero goes off into the jungle. During their separation, both heroine and daughter catch a cold. She relents fighting with the hero and dreams of him getting hurt. However, she wakes up to find the hero is nursing both girls. He reveals that he dreamed of her and their daughter getting killed and even his military brothers in the rescue noticed it. They sent him back with the promise they would bring the others back. The two are able to convey their feelings for each other and decide to become true wife and husband. In the end, the hero's brothers in arms are rescued and brought home.
