a little more karma 4  4

We have your cinderella romance with not enough karma in my opinion. I did like the plot of how they met in the storm and the heroine opening up about how she was framed as a baby killer when she was the only one who was thinking of saving the mother and baby. The heroine was outcasted by her father's new family whose stepmother assured him that she could speak to his previously departed wife. So, the heroine has a lonely and cruel childhood but she found herself a community, a job as a nurse, and home of her own. However, on her rare day off to see her day, she just happens to find the stepsister in labor, looking so bad of shape that she insists they call the hospital but the stepmother won't allow it because she believes in the home births and doesn't accept western medicine. The heroine still calls the ambulance but they arrive too late and the stepmother lies to everyone that the heroine said everything was fine and everyone like the hero's father believes her except her coworkers and friends but the HAG pressures the hospital to force her to quit and she's on the island to get away from the rumors and the new title of being a baby killer. The hero is shocked and that raw emotion invokes a passionate night and a soft good bye. I did like the hero because right after they separated, he got her a lawyer to prove she was innocent, debase the lies, and sue the family. Then the heroine shows up unexpectedly at the hero's door in New York, far from New Zealand to tell him the news personally of his impending fatherhood. Now, the hero is speechless and that causes the heroine to think he doesn't want anything to with the baby but he takes her out for a picnic at the park and they talk things out. We learn in closed the case against the lawyer, the heroine only got a huge settlement and settled at it because she didn't want to hurt her dad. The very same dad who hasn't seen or spoken with the heroine and couldn't even send her an apology letter to her. What a pathetic man and the hero agrees with him. He's perplexed on why she wants to go back to the place where the HAG who terrorizes lives but she has a family of friends and her derby roller girls. So, after some debate and the heroine mentioning the hero come to visit her, the hero makes a decision to go with her. During their short time in NYC, the hero reveals his past of seeing domestic abuse that went towards his mother, twin brother, and himself. Then the sadness of his mother committing suicide after making him promise to look after his brother. The two have dips in the road that they bump into and slowly learn. Then we come to a confrontation scene after a roller derby match with the heroine's old team where the stepmother nearly assaults her. The roller derby friends stand up for the heroine but the stepmother makes threats on having them lose their jobs for themselves and their spouses if they show kindness. This makes the heroine run crying and the hero doesn't make threats to the stepmother but promises that while she may be queen of little pond, he's the big catch that will have the whole world and more that will crush her if she tries anything. For me, what was a lovely bit of karma to the HAG but I wanted some more to the cowardly father. Then the hero asks her to come with him but she rejects his offer because she loves him. The fear of being loved has him go see his twin brother who is also in agony of romantic woes but after a good talk, the hero decides to fight for the heroine and hears she was admitted into the hospital. Nothing is wrong, but it does give them a chance to recap and talk over recent events that led to what how that they truly do love each other. Then we get another surprise and there's a very cute ending.
