During that time, Marcus looked after her and brought hope back into her life. Years later, Maggie did something unforgivable to him and he told her he never wanted to see her again. The whole story was not really what I was looking for. It all begins when the heroine receives a letter from her step-sister, who's desperate for her help. It turns out the hero who is also a member of the family is marrying some awful woman who's going to ship her and the other sister off to boarding school so soon after their parents' deaths. The heroine takes a brave and bold action of going back to her hometown a decade after her disappearance. Her whole disappearance started when she was adopted into her uncle's family that included the hero from a previous marriage (so, they're actually cousin-in-laws.) too. They grew up and she fell in love with the hero in her teenage years. He talked about there but a special someone but he never confirmed it was the heroine. Then came the dreadful incident: one night, the heroine overheard the grandfather talking to the hero about getting married. The heroine interrupts and tells a bold faced lied that she and the hero have already done it together. That really sets the hero off who drags the heroine out of there and tells her that he doesn't want to see her and to get out. Incredibly hurt by his words, she takes them to heart and leaves home that very night. It seems her arrival couldn't be better timed because the hero is recovering fall a horse accident that has left him with a broken leg. Plus, the sisters are out of town but the OW is in and making her way. The heroine can see the root of the sister's fear being the OW whispering all those boarding school and hating kids in the hero's ear. The heroine is also a victim of the OW's lies but the hero keeps the heroines to stay on to help with cooking and cleaning. In those two weeks, the OW gets kicked out and after that, the heroine discovers she's been cheating on the hero with OM. She tries to scare the heroine off but the hero is to reveal the truth. The hero and heroine finally talk things out of where he regretted his harsh words to the heroine. He reveals that he was going to tell the grandfather that he wanted to marry the heroine and he still wants to now. The hero and heroine get married with the sisters being their flower girl.
