On their birthday, the heroine and her sister have a fight about the twin's "job" where the twin marches off in a huff and steals the heroine's car. The heroine doesn't do anything till after her conversation with a representative of a company she's investigating. She calls her twin's workplace who state the sister hasn't come in and their bad choice of words sends the heroine in a flurry of worry. She goes to the police to file a missing person's report but only the hero is willing to look further in. It also turns out the hero is the heroine's next door neighbor. The hero starts the search but things escalate quick to the point where the heroine is unable to sit around and wait. She goes undercover to work at her sister's "workplace" and see if she can more information on her own. The hero is able to see through the heroine's disguise pretty quickly. He's against the whole thing but the heroine is able to convince him to go along with it. Once, they're safe and alone, the heroine opens up pretty quickly about her past. The heroine and her twin were training to be ballet dancers at a young age till their parents died that amassed lot of debts that left the heroine and her sister in foster care. Tossed from house to house with some bad folks to where they ran off and joined up with a strip club to use their ballet skills to make money. They did it to survive and the heroine used the money to get a college degree and her life on track, whereas her sister didn't. Things are left hanging but it's easy to see with them going upstairs of what's happening next.
