REAWAKENING MISS CALVERLEY 1

What will happen to their love after Anne’s memory comes back?

Anne has lost all her memories save her name, but at least when she collapsed on a stormy night, she was rescued from harm by aristocrat Lord James Aldhurst. Despite her difficulties, she bravely carries on with a smile on her face while James gently offers his support, but she’s plagued by insecurities on the inside. She feels as if there’s something she must do, and she’s troubled by the scars on her wrists… What do they mean? Part one of a period piece!

victorian amnesia 1 5  5

The hero is sent away to the countryside to cool his head from his encounter with the prince's crummy friend by his grandmother. On the way, he encounters a ragged and rope burn wrist heroine on the road. He immediately takes her to the mansion, much to the distaste of the head maid who I wanted to whack over the head. It was one thing to be cautious of a strange woman when you have a man's best interests in mind but the fact that her wrists had rope burns and you couldn't summon an ounce of sympathy burned my beans. When the heroine wakes up, she finds herself remembering only her name. So, the hero and her partner up to find out who she is. They are lead on many clues with suspicious men poking around. Then there's also the heroine's behavior what with her ability to ride horses well, playing chess, and her speech that suggest she is a lady. The head maid still doesn't believe it because if she has no idea who she is then she can't possibly be a lady. Slowly, the heroine's memories come back but not enough to say who she is or where she's from. It doesn't stop the hero and heroine from falling for each other. The head maid does her best to squash these feelings what with talking to the hero and heroine separately but her efforts are futile. This is especially when the heroine helps the hero see the home he considered a dark and lonely place to be a beautiful home. We end it with the two kissing and the hero telling the heroine that he loves her.
