Duped 4  4

The hero and heroine were engaged, in love, and happy as can be. That is until the heroine is told by a classmate/friend that the only reason the hero is marring her is a condition in his father's will if he marries before his brother and he gets the ranch. It's also why the brother broke up with the friend. The heroine is shocked and actually believes her words because the last thing the hero said was getting the ranch. Instead, trusting the hero or at least confronting him about it, she runs away. Leaves behind only a scrap of paper telling him their engagement when is over and barely a reason why. The poor hero is heartbroken and bears a hatred based on pain towards the heroine's betrayal as does the heroine to him. This goes on for a decade till the heroine comes back as a reporter for some big story. The two reunite with a lot of raw emotions threaten to burst. They skirt around each other with jabs and nips about the other hurting or breaking their hearts for about 20 pages. The hero dangles his cooperation in helping the heroine get that story for the reason she left. She reveals hearing about the will's conditions from a classmate. The hero states he never did what the classmate said and only wanted to marry the heroine for her alone. She asks if so, then why did he marry and he mentions the classmate's name. Suddenly, the heroine smells a conspiracy and tells him it was a classmate who told her about the will. They realize they were duped and pulled apart by the greedy brother and friend for the money. It's simple really: brother enters agreement with hero if he gives up his share of the ranch then he'll get the half of the hero's inheritance money. They pull out main couple apart. So, the classmate can comfort and seduce the hero into marrying her, so she can divorce and get a huge settlement. The two apologize to each other, realizing it wasn't just the other forces in their break up but the fact they didn't trust each other enough to face them nor share their secrets. They decide to pursue a physical relationship for the time being but they still fall back in love. Now, the heroine is caught between having a second chance with the hero or going back to Houston and get that promotion she's worked so hard for. As the heroine drives away, she realizes she can make a new path with her career but she won't get another chance with the hero. She tells her cameraman to drive back and the hero still standing where they separated. The heroine runs up to the hero, confesses her love, and asks him to marry her. The hero and heroine hug, kiss, and exclaim how happy they are to be in each other's arms. It was a nice ending and I enjoyed it.
